A promotional cdr with half an hour of music from Vidi Aquam, an Italian
project. I did not know them yet, but they seem to be active since
the mid 90's. The first track is an instrumental intro. somewhere
between neo-classical and darkwave, reminding me of old Hyperium acts
like Stoa or Black Tape for a Blue Girl. Not spectaculair, simply
pleasant to listen to. The same goes for the other tracks on this
cdr. A solid mixture of darkwave, gothic rock and ethereal music.
The compositions are also worthwhile. Most special is the female vocalist,
she sings with passion and she has a not so everyday voice. Some tracks,
like 'Le Silence', contain some heavier guitars. Others are more tranquil
and classical, like the slow and haunting 'Le Silence'. 'Queen of
the Contrast' has a nostalgic feel, it made me think of XMal Deutschland.
In general Vidi Aquam made a good impression to me, combining varied
styles and moods.

I
know VIDI AQUAM from Italy since the mid 90s, when I received their
first tape, which really became a small classic for me with its dark
sound somewhere between Gothic and Ritual music. After the second
cassette in 1996, I lost contact to the band and was very surprised,
that the group still exists, even, if there had been some line-up
changes through the years. The most significant change is for sure,
that today the bands has a female singer, which gives the songs a
more beautiful-melancholic touch, than a dark´n´doomy sound. It is
more a kind of Dark-Wave with some Gothic-Rock, Ethereal and very
few Experimental influences. It is strange, that no label signed the
band yet, ´cos the songwriting is of high quality. Think of Das Ich
collaborating with Black Tape For A Blue Girl or something like that.
Yes, I think, the band should send a demo to Projekt Records in New
York or even Middle Pillar, this could be possibly the right labels
for VIDI AQUAM. Until a bigger release, you should visit the website
of the band and listen to this stuff. (A.P.)
